Turning 30, Age Gaps And Embracing Life!
08 October 2023 | By Jess
Last month I turned 31. A week later I prepared to leave home again to start my second chapter of travel life. I originally left the country when I was 29 and headed on a solo journey with a one-way ticket to Thailand. I turned 30 in Sydney Australia, and I turned 31 in England (thank God for the sunny weather!)
When I was turning 30, I was having a small mental breakdown about life surrounded by 23/24-year-olds and thought WTF am I doing with my life. This year I am thinking WOW I still don’t know what I am doing with my life but, does that really matter? I don’t own my own house or car, I left my career to travel the world, I am not married, nor do I have any children. All my day one friends are settled down with a house, dogs, married, engaged, one of best friends has just had a baby (shout out to Baby Hattie!) Does this worry me? Absolutely not.
Travelling over the last 18 months has allowed me to embrace a life I never even knew was possible. It’s like I live two lives, both which I enjoy so much. I live an exciting backpacker's life where I do what I want when I want, I live in different places in the world, I work different jobs and then I come home to my amazing family and friends and enjoy their lives with them too.
I have met friends for life, who don’t even get excited when they hear Spice Girls on the radio (because they are too young!) however, friendships aren’t defined on age and you can soon get them to enjoy a bit of the zigga zigahh! Don’t ever worry that you’re too old or won’t fit in because you will find your tribe and it will all start making sense.
The family and friends who truly love you, will still care about you, will always support you, keep in contact and ensure you’re always part of their lives no matter where you in the world.
My advice to you, this is your life and only yours. It’s never ever too late to start again and follow your dreams. If you want to leave your job, do it. If you want to leave all your materialistic items and jump on a plane with no plan, do it. There isn't a timeline just a start and a finish, and we never know when our life is going to finish so literally live each day like your last. Here's to my chapter 31
